The best artificial grass for your garden is the one that fits your layout, budget and everyday use. For a practical shortlist from Status Grass, start with Antalya 30mm for a lower material budget, Jersey 30mm for a neat family lawn, Status Pet 35mm for a dog-focused garden and King 50mm for a deeper, matt-finish appearance.
This is our buying guide to the ranges we sell in the UK. Recommendations are based on our current product specifications and available sizes, checked on 13 October 2026. They are editorial choices within the Status range, rather than results from independent comparative wear or drainage tests.

Our shortlist by use
| Product | Our suggested use | Why compare it | What to consider |
|---|---|---|---|
|
Antalya 30mm Artificial Grass Order a sample |
Lower material budget | 30mm pile; two green tones with brown thatch | Compare its lighter listed weight with the fuller-feeling alternatives before ordering. |
|
Jersey 30mm Artificial Grass Order a sample |
A neat family-garden shortlist | 30mm flat yarn; three green shades and brown curly fibre | Choose a sample to check the feel; family use does not make it a certified impact surface. |
|
Bodrum 40mm Artificial Grass Order a sample |
A deeper pile on a value-focused shortlist | 40mm C-shaped yarn; PP and mesh-scrim backing with latex coating | Extra height does not automatically mean greater density or durability. |
|
California 38mm Artificial Grass Order a sample |
A fuller, multi-tone garden appearance | 38mm pile; emerald and olive fibres with green-yellow curly fibres | Its shade may look different from the other ranges in your garden light. |
|
Sorrento 20mm Recyclable PP Artificial Grass Order a sample |
A compact balcony or terrace profile | 20mm pile; 2m and 4m roll widths | Check door clearances, surface drainage and permission to fit before choosing. |
|
Status Pet 35mm Artificial Grass Order a sample |
A practical starting point for dog owners | 35mm pet range; described double PP cloth backing | Plan drainage and regular cleaning; no lawn is maintenance-free. |
|
King 50mm Artificial Grass Order a sample |
A deep, matt-finish lawn appearance | 50mm pile; three green tones and multi-spine yarn | 5m rolls may differ in shade from 2m and 4m rolls; confirm the batch plan. |

Best starting point for a lower budget: Antalya 30mm
Antalya is the lowest-priced option in this shortlist at the specification check. Its 30mm pile mixes two green tones with a brown curly fibre. It is worth comparing when the goal is a tidy lawn appearance and you need to keep the grass supply cost down.
That does not make it equivalent to every more expensive 30mm product. Compare the feel and fullness of an Antalya sample with Jersey or Luxury, then work out the supplied roll area. Saving on the rate per m² can be offset by extra waste if the available width does not suit the garden.
Best starting point for a neat family lawn: Jersey 30mm
Jersey combines a 30mm pile with flat yarns, three green shades and brown curly fibre. Its selectable 1m, 2m, 3m, 4m and 5m widths make it useful to compare across different garden shapes.
For a similar-height alternative with C-shaped yarn, also sample Luxury 30mm. A product's softness and visual fullness are best judged in person. Neither pile height nor a family-garden description proves that a surface is suitable beneath play equipment.
Best value-focused deeper-pile comparison: Bodrum 40mm
Bodrum offers a 40mm pile with C-shaped straight yarn, curly yarn and a PP and mesh-scrim backing with latex coating. Include it when you want to compare a fuller-looking pile without immediately moving to the higher-priced ranges.
A taller blade is not a complete quality score. Compare its sample with Jersey and California for colour, feel and visible backing when you part the fibres. Read the 30mm versus 40mm guide if height is your main decision.
Best shortlist for a multi-tone garden finish: California 38mm
California uses emerald and olive straight fibres with green-yellow curly fibres. That colour mix is a useful alternative to the shades in Jersey or Bodrum. The recorded roll choices include 3m as well as 2m, 4m and 5m, which can matter when planning a garden just under three metres wide.
Place samples in the area where the lawn will sit, then look from the house and the opposite end of the garden. Keep the pile direction consistent. You are choosing the shade that suits your space, not a colour that is objectively best for every garden.
Best starting point for dogs: Status Pet 35mm
Status Pet 35mm is the shortest pile in our 35mm, 40mm and 50mm Status Pet comparison. Its product description specifies double PP cloth backing. We suggest starting here when routine inspection, rinsing and a relatively neat finish matter more than maximum pile depth.
Compare Status Pet 40mm if you want a deeper family-lawn appearance, or 50mm if the fuller look is the main preference. The dog drainage and maintenance guide explains why the prepared base is as important as the turf. A pet label does not remove the need to pick up waste and rinse regularly.
Best compact-profile comparison: Sorrento 20mm
Sorrento is worth sampling for a low-profile balcony or terrace finish. It has a 20mm pile and selectable 2m and 4m widths. Check the entire build-up above the surface, including backing and any underlay, before measuring door clearance.
Keep existing drainage routes open and confirm the fitting method suits the waterproofing below. Its product page describes PP construction; check local collection arrangements before assuming there is a practical recycling route at the end of its life. See our balcony fitting guide for layout considerations.
Best deep-pile appearance comparison: King 50mm
King has a 50mm pile, matt-finish yarn and three green tones. Compare it when visual depth and a fuller lawn finish are the priorities, while allowing time to brush flattened areas after regular use.
King has a specific batch-colour note: 5m rolls may differ slightly in shade from 2m and 4m rolls. If you need to join different widths, confirm the batch match before ordering. Order a sample and compare it with a shallower option rather than assuming that 50mm is always an upgrade.
Compare the project total, not just the rate per m²
Sketch the full area and plan the cuts before committing to a product. A rectangular space measuring 3.8m by 5m has a finished area of 19m². A 4m by 5m piece contains 20m² before any additional length allowance for trimming. Base preparation, edging, joining materials, fitting and delivery can add to the grass supply cost.
Keep adjoining pieces in the same pile direction. Compare possible layouts using our measuring guide and cost guide. Check the final dimensions and checkout total before placing a cut-to-size order.
How to choose between the samples
- Choose two or three products that fit the use and budget.
- Compare their colour in daylight and shade with the fibres pointing the same way.
- Feel the yarn and look at the backing and product specification.
- Check the selectable widths against your roll plan.
- Decide how the installed area will drain and how you will clean it.
Frequently asked questions
Is 40mm better than 30mm artificial grass?
It gives you more pile depth, but not necessarily the better product for your garden. Compare yarn, colour, backing, cost and the way the lawn will be used.
Does a more expensive grass always need less maintenance?
No. All artificial lawns need debris removal, attention to flattened fibres and suitable cleaning. The use of the space and the installation affect the maintenance routine.
Can I choose from a photograph alone?
A photograph helps you shortlist, but screens and lighting change how colour appears. Compare samples in your garden before choosing the full lawn.
